The role  hunters

Despite the ban on hound or pasture hunting, the number of hunters who harvest woodcock has doubled over a period ranging from 1980 to 2000 (Ferrand), and  Again ,  the number of hunters was twice as high as today (1,930,000 hunters in 1983). Consequently, we see the limits of the management rules. An example, the PMA, it is useful in periods of cold, but, it is an exceptional situation, also provided that the services are more reactive  To  to take decisions .

It would therefore be very surprising for the situation to be naturally reversed if the hunters in France do not intervene quickly, and all the more so in the regions.   the most frequented such as Brittany and Aquitaine.

In the department of Doubs, in which all the notebooks were  to analyse  , with a return of 85%, the figures are unequivocal, a 50% drop in withdrawals was observed from 2005 to 2010. It shows a constant decrease of 18% per year, in 2005, 7158  woodcock collected, in 2010, only 2323 woodcock collected. ONCFS Doubs

We can deduce from this that this department does not justify anything in particular, for the neighboring departments, based on this analysis, there is a high probability that the other departments will encounter the same situation. Such a drop over 6 seasons, a trend which confirms a drop in numbers. Moreover, in several Breton forests, for the 2016/2017 season, the finding is clear, around 50% drop in withdrawals compared to previous figures.
